Site info

Hi,

I am the webmaster of this site, Mello Luchtenberg. Just a couple words about myself: I live in the Netherlands,in a town called Leeuwarden (Frisia).

This is my first web-project, though I have been interested in flags for quite a while. So now my work is there to share with everybody who has the same passion.

On this site there are flags of every country but not only the official national ones. Mostly every country has also some form of subdivisions and they can also have their own regalia, so I try to represent all the known ones. It is also my intention to add new ones as they appear.

As it is not always easy to find the official site with description and picture of the flag, sometimes I have to look up all kinds of related (and not very much so) sites to find the flag on background or a detail of it. It requires time and patience, but my idea is to represent the flags as accurate as possible. Of course, there are still many flags that are missing - these pages are always "under construction" and are constantly updated with new data, new information and findings. Many missing flags are missing either because it is not known if they are adopted as yet and what they look like, or because I miss firm information to be able to present a decent image.
If you have more information, or better if you have an image of any flag that you think it should be included here, I kindly ask you to contact me.

Copyright Information

Most of the flag images have been drawn or reconstructed by myself. You are free to use any flag image that is drawn by me on your non-commercial web site, It would be nice if you would add a simple text link back to http://www.vexilla-mundi.com

About the site

First I want to mention why I use mainly grey colours for my site. First reason is that grey is the most seldom colour on a flag. Second reason is that the site is focused on flags and that the flags should “steel the show” not the looks of the website.
Why the name Vexilla mundi you maybe ask. If I explain the meaning of the words you maybe know why I choose this name for my site.
Vexilla means in Latin flags and Mundi means in Latin world and people. These words combined makes Flags of the worlds and Flags of the people. For me it was the perfect name for my site.

- Flag construction sheets: The main source of the construction sheets is the “Album des pavillons nationaux et des marques distinctives” / “National flags and distinctive markings” author(s): Armand du Payrat, Daniel Roudaut (illustrations). Another source is the Flags of the world (FOTW) site. And a special thanks to Christopher Southworth for providing me with excellent construction sheets.
- Colours: The approximate RGB colours are also based on the pantone colours that are given in “Album des pavillons nationaux et des marques distinctives” / “National flags and distinctive markings” I was able to convert the pantone colours to RGB colours thanks to a program of pantone inc. called “Pantone Colourweb Pro”. For more information look at www.pantone.com

I have created this site with a screen resolution of 1280x1024. I hope the site can be viewed also with a lower resolution, I think it will be no problem but if so than please let me know what the problem is maybe I can change it.
